A Linenbacked Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Promotional Brochure (measures 26 1/2" x 40" [67 x 102 cm] when unfolded) (Learn More)

The Incredible Shrinking Man, the classic 1957 Jack Arnold science fiction (sci-fi) miniaturization fantasy adventure thriller ("A fascinating adventure into the unknown!"; "The most incredible story the screen has ever told!"; "Every hour he gets smaller.... Smaller... Smaller and moment by moment the terror mounts!..."; "Victim of Weird mist!"; "Day by Day he shrinks!"; "Science is baffled!"; "Cat becomes monster!"; "Terror at every turn!"; "Deadly spider attacks!"; "Lost in a floods fury!"; a highly literate screenplay by Richard Matheson from his own novel; surprisingly, the studio did not force Matheson to tack on an artificial "happy" ending, and it is lucky, for most people think the movie's actual ending is wonderful!; the special effects are primitive by today's standards, but they are very powerful, and work just fine) starring Grant Williams (in the title role), Randy Stuart, April Kent, Paul Langton, Raymond Bailey, William Schallert, and Orangey (as the cat Butch; Orangey was also Cat in "Breakfast At Tiffany's!")

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this special promotional brochure! It was surely sent to theaters folded, to try to get them to book the movie, and it had information and images about the movie on the other sides, but when it was completely opened up, it has a completely different day-glo one-sheet-like image that is not on the regular one-sheet (and we are currently auctioning an example of that one-sheet in a separate auction)! This promotional poster is NOT pictured in the pressbook, but very similar art is on the cover of the pressbook, and there IS a full-page ad in the pressbook for a very similar day-glo 24-sheet, which was available to theaters! We can see that there is printing on the back by holding the linenbacked poster to a strong light, but we can't see exactly what is printed there, but it is surely information similar to that in the pressbook, and it also mentions the 24-sheet poster. We have no unbacked example to compare it to, and it is surely incredibly rare, because we can find no other example of it! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had surface paper loss, creases, and scuffs along most of the folds and some tears and tiny paper loss in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. If I owned this incredibly rare poster, I would surely have additional restoration performed (with or without re-backing the poster), but bear its current condition in mind and look closely at our super-sized image before bidding on it.
