They Knew What They Wanted, the 1940 Garson Kanin Napa Valley romantic love triangle mistaken identity melodrama ("Carole Lombard is brilliant Charles Laughton is amazing"; "You have seen great motion pictures... We believe you have not seen a greater motion picture than this!"; "From the Pulitzer Prize play by Sidney Howard"; about a rich but unattractive farmer who starts a romance through the mail with a beautiful woman, and he sends a picture of a handsome man to her telling her that it is him!) starring Carole Lombard, Charles Laughton, William Gargan (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Frank Fay, Karl Malden, and Harry Carey Sr.
