The New York Cover Girls were an all-female barnstorming basketball team from the 1940s to the 1950s. What made them especially notable is that they would always play against all-male teams, likely local high school teams, often at fundraiser events. Besides basketball, they would also perform other sports-related activities as well as singing, dancing and more at the halftime show. Some of the team included: Audrey Erickson ("The All-American Girl of Look magazine"), Penny Petras, Dot Whalen, Roz Rinaldt, and Ruby Perlotta. Note that Audrey Erickson had been profiled in Look magazine as the All American Girl because of her many sports talents. We found a review of one of her appearances where it said that she was "the star performer" of The New York Cover Girls and that "this versatile lady gave exhibitions of baton swinging, tap dancing, kicking a football and pitching a baseball. Miss Erickson got away several punts which would have traveled 60 yards on an open field while she also booted drop kicks over the back board of the basket." She later became a professor at Adelphi University!
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster is printed on heavy window card paper that can't be rolled, and it needs to be sent in a large flat package.
