An Unfolded Commercial Poster (made to be sold directly to the public; measures 26" x 69" [66 x 175 cm]) (Learn More) Frankenstein is a classic novel written by English author Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley that tells the story of Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who creates a dangerous creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment. The novel has influenced popular culture for at least 100 years, and has inspired numerous films, television programs, video games, advertising posters, and derivative works. The monster has been portrayed by actors Boris Karloff, Glenn Strange, Lon Chaney Jr., Christopher Lee, Robert De Niro, and many others If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very unusual (and fun) poster. We searched the Internet, and we found references to "giant" 6 foot posters of Frankenstein and Dracula being sold for $1 each, and they seem to be very similar to this poster, but not quite the same. We saw reference on one page to the "Lowel Toy Company" and that page said 1960s for the date. So we think that there is a wonderful chance that this is a commercial poster from the 1960s that was likely sold through comic books or other magazines, and we feel certain it is an original and not any sort of later reproduction. What makes it especially odd is that we were consigned two very similar posters, BUT THEY ARE NOT QUITE THE SAME! If you look closely at both of them, you will see that the images are not the same, so they are obviously two different posters (and one of them was printed in two sections, and the other was printed in a single long sheet!), but because of the great similarities, we imagine they were sold by the same company. So there are a lot of unknowns about both these posters (the other one is in a separate auction), but there is no doubt that they are both from the 1960s and that they are both really cool, and they will look great on the new owner's wall (either with or without restoration). If anyone knows more about these posters, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good. There are some creases and tears of varying lengths (generally 1" or less but some are larger) along parts of some edges. Several are repaired with tape from the back and/or front. There are fine creases scattered throughout. Someone used a black magic marker to write "Horror Show Display" on back of the upper edge in large letters, and the writing slightly bleeds through to the front.
