An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28 1/4" x 42" [72 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) Hauptmann, the 1930s real-life crime documentary ("The story of the Lindbergh kidnapping and murder!"; "Public enemy No. 1 of the world"; "Showing the crime from the time of the kidnapping thru Hauptmann's conviction"). Note that in 1935 Richard Hauptmann was convicted of the 1932 kidnapping and murder of Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr., the 20-month-old son of famed aviator Charles Lindbergh. Despite his conviction, he continued to profess his innocence, but all appeals failed and he was executed in the electric chair at the New Jersey State Prison on April 3, 1936. Note that we could not find any information about this specific film, which was surely released after Hauptmann's conviction in 1935, when the story dominated newspaper headlines, and one would think it was made prior to April 1936, when he was executed, since there is no mention of his execution on the poster. There is a similar documentary about John Dillinger that was made in 1934, after he was killed, and there is also little information about that documentary, and both documentaries have a one-sheet that would seem to indicate that they solely played in roadshow releases (especially since the poster for this documentary has a blank area at the bottom where roadshow theaters could put in their name and play dates information). It's also possible that this documentary was simply a compilation of existing newsreels. If anyone knows more about this documentary, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned ANY movie paper from this documentary! As noted above, it may be that only a one-sheet was made to promote this documentary, and this may be the only surviving example of it! Note that this one-sheet measures 28 1/4" x 42" [72 x 107 cm]. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tears and small areas of paper loss on parts of the vertical fold, with two tears to the left of the middle fold in the side of Hauptmann's head, and a horizontal tear running from the side of his face to the "E" of "ENEMY". There was paper loss in the center of the top border extending into the top of the letters and in the center of the bottom border, and some tiny paper loss and small tears in the rest of the borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
