An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" Movie Still (Learn More) Richard Arlen was born Sylvanus Richard Van Mattimore in 1899 and was a pilot in the Royal Canadian Flying Corps in World War I, but he never saw action. After the war, it took him several years to find himself, and he was discovered by Hollywood in the early 1920s, but it still took him several years of very minor roles (many uncredited) before he got his big break as one of the leads in "Wings" in 1927. He became a lead star, and had no trouble with the transition to sound, but his career went downhill in the late 1930s. He became deaf at the end of the 1940s, but an operation restored his hearing, and he continued in movies into the 1960s. He passed away in 1976 at the age of 76. Important Added Info: Note that this portrait still is from the movie "Accomplice". Condition: good. This vintage movie publicity still is in lesser condition (what most collectors might call "good"). It has real defects typical of poorly stored photographs that are ten to eighty years old. Note that our small image of the item on this auction page leads to a really HUGE image of this item, so please look at that larger image, as it will certainly greatly help you know exactly what condition this item is in! Many vintage stills pick up "scuff" marks over the years and it is likely that this item has some of them, and they may not be all that apparent from our larger image. Please do not bid on this still unless you can accept the clear defects that it has! Learn More about condition grades
