An Original Vintage Movie Script (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm], 112 pages) (Learn More) Fear of Flying, the 1974 movie script written for Julia Phillips, based on the best selling 1973 novel by Erica Jong. Just as the book was coming out, Ms. Phillips negotiated to buy the rights to make a movie from Ms. Jong, for just $10,000 for a one-year option. She hired David Giler to write the screenplay, and she had originally intended to have a "name director" direct the movie, but then she decided to direct it herself. The movie was never made, for a variety of reasons, and there were lawsuits filed! Of course, Julia Phillips was the co-producer (with her husband) of The Sting, Taxi Driver, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and she later made a sensation with her book "You'll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again". There never was a movie made from this best selling novel! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Important Added Info: Note that this script has "Julia" written on the cover, so we think it was surely given to Julia Phillips, and she surely gave it to Charles Shyer, who was a friend of hers at this time! There is no credited author on the script, but based on our research, it was almost surely written by David Giler (see above). Note that this script was consigned to us directly from director/screenwriter Charles Shyer. Mr. Shyer is the director of many extremely popular movies from the 1970s to the present, many of which are romantic comedies, including House Calls, Private Benjamin, Baby Boom, remakes of Father of the Bride and The Parent Trap, and many others. Over the years, he collected scripts, which he received primarily in two different ways. He was friends with screenwriters, directors, and producers during those years, and they would sometimes send him scripts of their movies to get his opinion of them, and many of those are offered here. In addition, as a member of the screenwriter's branch of the Academy, he was sent many scripts where the producers hoped that their script would be nominated for a Best Screenwriting Academy Award, and many of these have "for your consideration" printed on the cover. This is a rare opportunity to purchase original scripts that come directly from the personal collection of a prominent director/screenwriter! Condition: very good. Note that we have photographed the cover of the script, the title page, the final page of the script (the one that reads "THE END"), and one or more interior pages. These images will not only provide important information about the script, but they also allow you to closely judge the condition of the script. The script is 100% complete!
