Date Sold 6/10/2010 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 2 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (11x14; LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Dangerous Curves, the 1929 Lothar Mendes circus romantic love triangle melodrama ("The Inimitable Clara Bow Will Thrill You Again!"; about a pretty young girl working at the circus as a bareback rider, sometimes in full clown makeup; she is in love with the handsome trapeze artist, but he has fallen for a beautiful vamp played by an extremely young Kay Francis!) starring Clara Bow ("SEE and HEAR her talk!"), Richard Arlen, Kay Francis, David Newell, and Anders Randolf. Note that Clara Bow was the most famous "flapper girl" of the mid to late 1920s (she became known as "The It Girl" after the character she played based on the popular novel by Elinor Glyn). She had a major role in Wings, and was Paramount's biggest star at that time. But she had a notorious private life and seemingly "settled down" when she married cowboy star Rex Bell in 1931 (she had two children and she retired from movies), but sadly in 1949 she went into a mental institution after a failed suicide attempt (she had had psychiatric issues for quite some time) and she was released but never returned to her family, and lived alone until her death in 1965. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that these are hand-colored lobby cards. In the early days of movies prior to the invention of good quality full-color printing, studios would have lobby cards printed in black and white and then amazingly would hire women to hand-color the cards one at a time (apparently labor was very cheap at the time)! So, each card is colored slightly differently, and the coloring is never a perfect match. Condition: fair to good. There is paper loss along the upper left edge of the card pictured at bottom and there is a 2 1/2" tear in the left of the top edge of that card that has been repaired with tape from the back. There are diagonal creases in the lower left corner of both cards as well as some creases and tattering around the edges. Fortunately, the lobby cards' defects are mostly limited to background and border areas. Learn More about condition grades
