An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Stage Play Still (Learn More) Stella Adler was an actress from the 1930s to the 1940s. She was part of one of the most famous Jewish acting families ever, which included her parents Jacob and Sarah Adler, and her brothers Charles, Jay, and Luther. She was one of the people involved in the founding of the Group Theatre in 1931, and later married Harold Clurman, one of the founders. According to Marlon Brando, she was obsessed with becoming a traditional Hollywood leading lady, and had a nose job in 1937, and began acting under the name "Stella Ardler" in "Love On Toast", but she did not achieve the success in Hollywood she so wanted, and she pretty much quit acting in movies after that, except for a few minor roles. She became an acting teacher and was a mentor to the very young Marlon Brando, and was one of the early proponents of "The Method", a revised acting technique derived from, but different from, the method used at the Group Theatre in the 1930s. Adler passed away in 1992 at the age of 91. Condition: good. The still has unevenly discolored throughout and there are a few pencil marks in the borders, but it is otherwise in pretty good condition. Learn More about condition grades
