A 1915 Re-Release Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Powder Flash of Death, the 1913 Allan Dwan silent Civil War romantic melodrama ("Two Reel 101 Bison Feature"; "Universal Films") starring Wallace Reid, Pauline Bush, Marshall Neilan, Jessalyn Van Trump, and David Kirkland. Note that this was one of the very first Universal films ever! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info: Note that in late 1915, when lobby cards first started, sometimes the cards would have vertical images. But they quickly became a standard horizontal image by early 1916. That is why we know this card dates from either late 1915 or very early 1916, and since the movie itself dates from 1913, it is a re-release (but there would have been no lobby cards for that first release, only posters, and of course, none of those likely exist). This card itself is incredibly rare, and it is the only item from this movie we have ever auctioned.

Note that it is likely this lobby card dates from around 1916, which is when the earliest "regular" lobby cards were made. A major movie like this would have stayed in first release all the way from 1914 through 1916 or 1917, so you might consider this a first release card (especially since there is likely no earlier lobby card from this title), but please do not bid on it thinking it is surely from 1914, as it is likely from around 1916.
Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: good. There was a pinhole in each corner and there is paper loss and staining down the left blank border, and a lesser amount of staining in the other borders, with paper loss in the bottom right blank corner. Since almost all of the defects are in the blank borders, the card can certainly be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or any restorer could easily repair the defects through restoration. Either way, the new owner will have an incredibly ultra rare, ultra early lobby card to display on their wall!
