An Original Vintage Folded Dutch World War II Poster (measures 21 3/4" x 31 1/4" [55 x 79 cm]) (Learn More)

Jeugd Treed Aan in Het Arbeidsfront (literally translates to "Youth, join the Labor Front!"), the 1944 Dutch World War II (WWII) Home Front poster created by the Nazi German-occupying forces to encourage young people to join the Dutch Labor Front. Note that this poster features Koekkoek art of blonde & blue-eyed youths with a factory in the distance. The Dutch Labor Front (Nederlandsche Arbeidsfront) was a national-socialist confederation established in 1942 by Reichs commissioner Arthur Seyss-Inquart. The other Dutch trade unions were dismantled and all of their assets were transferred to the Dutch Labor Front. Note that by the end of the war, 205,901 Dutch men and women had died of war-related causes. The Netherlands had the highest per capita death rate of all Nazi-occupied countries in Western Europe (2.36%). Over half (107,000) were Jewish Holocaust victims, and there were also many thousands of non-Dutch Jews in the total, who had fled to the Netherlands from other countries, seeking safety (the most famous being Anne Frank). World War II left many lasting effects on Dutch society, and on May 4th the Dutch commemorate those who died during the war. Among the living, there are many who still bear the emotional scars of the war, both first and second generation, and in 2000 the government was still granting 24,000 people an annual compensatory payment.
Artist: M. AZ. Koekkoek
