An Original Vintage Theatrical 7 1/2" x 9 1/4" [19 x 23 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Stand-In, the 1937 Tay Garnett Hollywood California movie-making acting stage comedy ("A merry satire on dizzy Hollywood!"; "Based on the Saturday Evening Post Story by Clarence Budington Kelland") starring Leslie Howard, Joan Blondell, Humphrey Bogart, Alan Mowbray, Marla Shelton, C. Henry Gordon, and Jack Carson. Note that Bogart made this movie immediately after "Dead End" (and a year after "The Petrified Forest"), but he was still so little thought of by Hollywood that he was third billed in this movie, and was not pictured on the original paper! It was not until "Casablanca" and "The Maltese Falcon" that Bogart became a first level superstar. This movie was later re-released, headlining Humphrey Bogart, with a large image of him on the posters! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 7 1/2" x 9 1/4" [19 x 23 cm]. Note that this still was consigned to us by legendary collector/dealer Marty Davis! Marty was hired in 1972 to evaluate the entire collection of W. Ward Marsh (1893-1971), who was the film critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper from 1919, until his retirement in 1970. In 1919 Marsh wrote his first of 23,000 movie reviews for the Plain Dealer. Marsh died less than a year after his retirement in 1970. His library, and photographic and memorabilia archives were given to the proprietor of Cleveland's finest bookstore. Marty Davis was the first person with a background in film history and collectibles to examine the archives. He worked for three to four hours a day, for six months, and his compensation was his pick of the archives. This still (and the other stills that carry this paragraph) are from the W. Ward Marsh archives, and all were stamped on the back by Marty Davis to indicate that they came from this legendary collection. Condition: good. The still was neatly trimmed on three sides and there is slight discoloration in the center of the image. Learn More about condition grades
