An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (11x14; LC; measures 11" x 14") (Learn More)

Go Down, Death, the 1944 Spencer Williams black-cast biblical religious blackmail crime melodrama ("Alfred N. Sack reverently presents"; "The story of Jesus and The Devil"; "A Spencer Williams All-Negro Production"; based on the James Weldon Johnson poem; about a crime boss whose business is hurt by a new preacher, and the boss blackmails the preacher with compromising photos of him, and that results in the preacher's death, and the crime boss has visions of Hell and finds religion!; sort of a cross between "It's a Wonderful Life" and "A Christmas Carol") starring Spencer Williams, Myra D. Hemmings, Samuel H. James, Eddye L. Houston, The Heavenly Choir, and Jimie Green's Orchestra. Note that this was one of eight all-black cast movies directed by Spencer Williams in the 1940s. After Oscar Micheaux, he is perhaps the best remembered of the early African American filmmakers. After he directed those eight movies, he played the role of Andy on TV's "Amos 'n' Andy"!

Important Added Info: Note that over the years, we have sold original vintage movie paper from virtually every all-black cast movie ever made, but we have never ever sold even one still or lobby card from this movie! Apparently, virtually no original paper survives, other than this single lobby card, and it is in pretty nice condition!

Condition: very good. There are pinholes in the borders and some light creases in the left 2" of the card. Other than the above, the card is in pretty nice condition! Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back of the card!
