An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked Argentinean Movie Poster (measures 29" x 43" [74 x 109 cm]) (Learn More) Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Warning! The monster is loose!"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive (as Dr. Herbert V. Frankenstein), Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that there is a U.S. one-sheet that has the exact same image as this poster, and it is believed to be from a 1960s re-release. We have auctioned many examples of that poster. But we have never before auctioned this Argentinean poster. That makes us wonder, which came first, this poster or the U.S. one? Also, the U.S. poster has no studio logo on it, but this poster does. The Universal logo on this Argentinean poster was mostly used between the mid-to-late 1960s which helps us to date the poster to those years. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some separation and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds. It had a diagonal tear running from the top center of the poster down to the left and through the letters, ending in the top horizontal fold, below the "E" of "DEL". There was also an 8" vertical tear running down the right edge of the top of the green background. The poster had some pinholes and tiny tears in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
