Date Sold 8/31/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 8 3/4" x 11 1/4" [22 x 29 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) Destry Rides Again (released in some countries as "Arizona"), the classic 1939 George Marshall romantic cowboy western gambling poker comedy ("Based on the novel by Max Brand"; about the son of a famous sheriff who arrives in a crooked western town, with the hopes that he is like his father and will "clean up" the town, but he seems to be far from the man for the job, because he has Eastern ways, but he soon proves the naysayers wrong) starring Marlene Dietrich (as Frenchy), James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart; in the title role as Tom Destry Jr.), Charles Winninger, Mischa Auer, Brian Donlevy, Irene Hervey, Una Merkel, Allen Jenkins, Warren Hymer, Billy Gilbert, Lillian Yarbo, and Jack Carson. Note that the title of the movie refers to Stewart's character returning to the town where his father had been sheriff, but it is not a sequel of any sort. Oddly, when the movie was re-made with Audie Murphy in the lead role, the title was shortened to simply "Destry", which means that "Destry Rides Again" came before "Destry"! This is one of an excellent collection of 27 rare heralds from the late 1930s and early 1940s which was recently discovered. Many of them are ones we have either never auctioned before or only auctioned once or twice. The heralds were all printed in the U.S., but were mostly used in theaters in Egypt, so most have overprinting on the back for an Egyptian movie theater. Also, almost all of the heralds have either tiny circular holes scattered in the image (sometimes very few, sometimes more), and some of them have larger paper loss somewhere in the image. We strongly suggest you look closely at our images of the fronts and backs of these rare heralds before bidding on them, so you can see the location of the tiny circular holes or larger paper loss. Condition: good. There are around fourteen tiny circular holes scattered in the herald. See above for more about the condition of this herald and please look at our super-sized images of both sides before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
