An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

Moon Over Miami, the 1941 Walter Lang Florida Everglades romantic musical ("Adaptation by George Seaton and Lynn Starling from a play by Stephen Powys"; "Lyrics and Music by Leo Robin & Ralph Rainger"; about two Texas girls losing an inheritance because of taxes and they travel to Miami to find rich husbands) starring Don Ameche, Betty Grable, Robert Cummings (Bob Cummings), Charlotte Greenwood, Jack Haley, Carole Landis, Cobina Wright Jr., Fortunio Bonanova, and Jack Cole. Note that Alberto Vargas did the artwork for the cover of the pressbook and the 24-sheet only on this movie, and both bear his signature. The pressbook explains that Vargas was commissioned to paint this image. Nowhere does it state that he did any of the other art for the movie, even though one of the one-sheets and the insert are often described as being Vargas art. It is my opinion that they are NOT drawn by Vargas, and certainly the pressbook backs that up.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this insert, and the last one sold for $3,100!

Note that this insert and also the style A one-sheet (which also has similar "pinup" art of a sexy Betty Grable-like blonde, standing full-length in a skin-tight outfit!) have both been incorrectly attributed to Alberto Vargas. Actually, he solely did the 24-sheet for this movie, and the artist for the style A one-sheet (and this lookalike insert) did the art "in the Vargas style", which has caused this incorrect attribution (and this information is corroborated by the pressbook). But it still is certainly wonderful art, and we wish we knew whose art it is, so that we could credit that person!

Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we think it would have a strong chance of lessening its condition, so we will only send it in a very large flat package, unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage).

What IS paperbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded. It had some smudges, creases, and pinholes around the edges. It had a 2" tear in the upper left border and the top 1" was folded back at one time. It had a few dot stains scattered throughout and a pinhole near the center. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed, but it was roughly handled since it was backed, and it likely acquired some additional border wear and some slight scuffing since it was backed, and the repair of the tear in the upper left is now somewhat noticeable. If I owned this wonderful poster, I would surely have a talented restorer perform slight additional touch up to it (with or without re-backing it), and it will display incredibly on the new owner's wall, but I could also easily imagine many collectors displaying it as is. That will be the choice of the new owner of this very desirable poster.
