An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27 1/2" x 41 1/2" [70 x 105 cm]) (Learn More) Mantan Messes Up, the 1948 Sam Newfield all-black African American comedy ("He knows what he wants when he wants it!") starring Mantan Moreland, Monte Hawley, Lena Horne (in archival footage from the 1944 short "Boogie-Woogie Dream"), Eddie Green, Buck and Bubbles, Nina Mae McKinney, Red Caps, Neva Peoples, Bo Jinkins, and the Four Tones. Note that until June of 2015, we had only seen 1950s re-release one-sheets from this movie, but at that time, we auctioned a 1948 first release one-sheet! This confirmed that first release items were distributed by Lucky Star Productions and Toddy Pictures, while 1950s re-release items were distributed by Toddy Pictures alone. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of the all-black movies from Toddy Pictures that was re-released in the 1950s, and there are a huge number of those re-release one-sheets floating through the hobby. But what we are offering here is the ultra rare 1946 original release one-sheet, which we have only auctioned once before (and it has a completely different image). Note that the re-release poster has a similar layout to this original poster and the exact same credits order, but the artwork is clearly different. Condition: fair. The poster has substantial separation in portions of the folds that make it fragile and somewhat difficult to handle. It has creases, defects, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths along parts of some edges and some borders are trimmed. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid and please do not bid unless you can accept the defects described above, or you are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
