UPDATED 04/04/2011: Note that a knowledgeable collector has stated that he believes that this staining was caused by the poster actually being posted in 1918, and he says that he has seen few World War I posters that appear to have been used and then "rescued" as this one appears to have been. There is considerable brown water staining on the back of the poster and some of it is scattered throughout the front as well (a knowledgeable collector has stated that he believes that this staining was caused by the poster actually being posted in 1918, and he says that he has seen few World War I posters that appear to have been used and then "rescued" as this one appears to have been). There are some small tears around the edges of the poster. Fortunately, this is the type of poster that usually responds quite well to restoration. It is likely that some or all of the staining can be removed through chemical means, and certainly what can't be removed that way can be touched up with paint restoration.
