An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Millie, the 1931 John Francis Dillon romantic murder melodrama ("The right girl who met the wrong men"; "Radio's electrifying sensation"; a small town girl marries a successful business man and has a daughter, and after they separate, her life does not go well, and years later, she discovers that one of her former boyfriends is trying to seduce her now-17 year-old daughter, and she shoots him, but the jury acquits her when they learn the entire story) starring Helen Twelvetrees, Lilyan Tashman, Robert Ames, James Hall, John Halliday, Joan Blondell, and Anita Louise. Note that this movie was inspired by a real life 1930 murder case in Europe. In 1931, it was adapted into this movie, but even in those pre-Code times, the details of the case had to be altered. In 1935, producers Arnold Pressburger and Gregor Rabinovitch decided to make a German version, "Mazurka", and they hired Pola Negri to come over from the U.S., where her career was winding down. The movie ran into trouble, probably partially because Pressburger and Rabinovitch were "not Aryan" (they would soon both leave Germany), and partially because it was rumored that Negri had had an affair with Hitler, and Goebbels was afraid her making a movie in Germany could cause a scandal, but the movie was made, and everyone agreed it was excellent. Warner Bros. liked "Mazurka" so much that they bought the rights to it, intending to have Bette Davis star in the American version of it, but it ended up starring Kay Francis, and it was called "Confession", and released in 1937. It was almost a scene-by-scene remake of this original German version, and Warner Bros. bought the American rights to the movie and did not allow it to be shown in the U.S., for fear that it would hurt "Confession". But this movie, "Millie", was the very first movie based on this notorious murder case, and was made just a year after the actual murder! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: good. There are tack holes and stains around the edges, with one near the center of the card in the girl's lower cheek. There is surface paper loss in the "il" of "Millie" (see our image). The card is lightly "warped", so it doesn't lay completely flat, but this would be corrected either when it is framed, or more likely, when restoration is performed.
