An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 16 3/4" [36 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) Tarzan Finds a Son!, the 1939 Richard Thorpe Africa jungle action adventure fantasy thriller ("ALL NEW! The First Tarzan Picture in 3 Years!"; "Based upon the characters created by Edgar Rice Burroughs") starring Johnny Weissmuller (in the title role as Tarzan), Maureen O'Sullivan (as Jane), Johnny Sheffield (billed as "John Sheffield"; as "Boy"), Ian Hunter, Henry Stephenson, Frieda Inescort, Henry Wilcoxon, Laraine Day, Morton Lowry, Gavin Muir, and Cheetah (the chimpanzee). Note that in the books, Tarzan and Jane were married, and there was nothing wrong with them having a son. But in the movies, the producers feared that their son would be considered "illegitimate", so they had him "found" in the jungle (and he was referred to as "Tarzan Jr." in some of the early advertising, but that was dropped, perhaps because it made it obvious he was really Weissmuller's son!). Also, the movie originally ended with Jane dying, because Maureen O'Sullivan didn't want to make anymore Tarzan movies. But fans protested mightily, and the ending was quickly changed so that she survived, and Maureen O'Sullivan was convinced to appear in two more Tarzan movies! Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this window card in all our years of auctioning! Also note that it looks like the left, right, and bottom borders might have been trimmed, but actually, they were printed with a "full bleed", something MGM was doing at the time, which means there were no white borders when the card was printed (although the top blank area has been neatly trimmed off). The card now measures 14" x 16 3/4" [36 x 43 cm]. Note that the window card was folded across the center at one time. Because the poster has condition issues, we don't want to re-fold the window card prior to mailing, because we believe that re-folding the window card would potentially lessen its condition even more. If you specifically request it, we will re-fold this window card, but you will not be able to return it. Condition: fair. The top was trimmed and there is paper loss in all four corners, and the card was folded across the original middle. It appears that someone put some kind of varnish of shellac over the card and it is likely not removable. Please bear in mind the card's significant defects before placing a bid.
