TEXAS GUINAN 1sheet

Appears in Cowboy Movie Posters

BOOK SOLD OUT
The image at right appears in the book we published as shown above. While we once owned this item, we did not auction it through eMoviePoster.com (which is why no price or date is listed) nor do we have it available for purchase.

Texas Guinan (born Mary Louise Cecilia Guinan) was sort of like a Texas version of Louise Brooks! She was much more famous for her life outside of the few movies she made in her career. She was a notorious outspoken party girl who treated men badly, but from her, they took it (her trademark greeting was, "Hello suckers"). She started with Triangle Film Corp in 1917 where she made 4 films including The Gun Woman. Then she went to Frohman Amusement where she made 13 films, possibly more, then she went to ReelCraft/BullsEys again making 13 films including The Night Rider which was directed by Therdo Joos in 1920. She then made 3-5 films for Victor Kremer Productions and then started her own production company where she made 12 films on her own. In 1929 Melody Distributors rereleased some of her films with sound added. These included Fighting the Vigilantes, Girl of the Rancho, Lady of the Law, Letters of Fire, Moonshine Feud, My Lady Robinhood, Night Rider, Not Guilty, and White Squaw. Whoever owned the rights to the 13 short films she made between 1917 and 1921 re-released them at this time (adding sound), and that distributor created a great stock poster featuring a beautiful stone litho headshot image of Guinan wearing a cowboy hat, with her trademark reading next to her, and her name, and the name of the current movie, "Queen of the Night Clubs" under her name. She passed away in 1933 at the age of 49 from amoebic dysentery.
