An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) We're In the Navy Now, the 1926 A. Edward Sutherland silent Naval military sailor comedy ("Original story by Monty Brice") starring Wallace Beery, Raymond Hatton, Chester Conklin, Tom Kennedy, and Donald Keith. Note that Tom Kennedy was NOT the older brother of comic actor Edgar Kennedy, as is often mistakenly noted (and we are guilty of having passed on that falsehood innocently!). Tom was a former amateur boxing champion, who turned to acting in the middle 1910s, primarily playing large oafish characters. He often acted with Edgar Kennedy (which is likely why they were mistakenly identified as brothers), and he appeared in a series of 11 Columbia two-reel comedies alongside Monty Collins in the middle 1930s, and he had a major role in the "Torchy Blaine" detective movies. He stayed active in movies all the way through the 1960s! Also note that in 1926, Wallace Beery and Raymond Hatton appeared in "Behind the Front", and the public loved the comic antics of this very large man with this very small man, and they went on to make a series of similar movies, including this one. They were so popular that there was also an imitation series of similar movies starring Karl Dane and George K. Arthur. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving complete copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! Not only that, we have only auctioned two lobby cards, two window cards and a few 8x10 stills for this film but no other posters! Note also that this poster was folded at one time but because it has tape on the back of two folds, it can't be re-folded and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster was mostly separated on the top and middle folds. Someone put tape on the back of those area and also 3 pieces of tape on the lower right border, plus three more tape repairs on other parts of the borders and then they performed slight touch up to the fronts of the two borders, but left alone the border defects (likely assuming they would barely show when the poster was framed). The biggest border defect was a 3" tear in the center of the top border, with tiny paper loss in the center of the top blank border. The poster is not fragile, which is a big plus!
