The Bataclan (Ba-Ta-Clan) is a theatre in Paris, France which was designed in 1864 by the architect Charles Duval. It's name refers to Ba-ta-clan, an operetta by Jacques Offenbach, and since the early 1970s, it has been a venue for rock music. On November 13, 2015, 89 people were killed in a coordinated terrorist attack in the theatre.
Artist: Jose Arva

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had some tiny paper loss and tiny tears in the right of the top border, with minor wear in the rest of the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Note that, oddly, someone left an extremely large amount of excess linen on the poster, bringing this 19 3/4" x 25 1/2" poster up to 30" x 39". Anyone could easily trim any amount of the excess linen without damaging the poster in any way, so it is not really a "defect".
