Date Sold 9/20/2015 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 8 re-release 8x10 stills from Of Human Bondage. Note that some of these re-release stills are dated 1939 and some are dated 1941, and some are not dated at all. The ones with studio information are from RKO, NOT Warner Bros. We suspect they are surely all from the late 1930s to early 1940s when Miss Davis was doing a project with RKO, and they prepared these great stills from her most famous role! Please do not bid on these stills thinking they are from 1934, because they are from a few years later! Of course, Of Human Bondage is the classic 1934 John Cromwell man-obsessed-with-trashy-woman-who-treats-him-as-badly-as-anyone-has-ever-been-treated romantic melodrama ("The love that lifted a man to paradise. and hurled him back to earth [sic] again!"; based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham) starring Leslie Howard, Bette Davis (note that because Bette Davis was a Warner Bros star, and because she was "loaned" to RKO to make the movie, Warner executives saw to it that she wasn't even nominated for the Best Actress Oscar [for the only time in Oscar history, there was a major effort to have her still win by being a "write-in" candidate, but that failed, which was likely the greatest travesty in the history of the Academy Awards!]. As so often happens, Davis was given the Best Actress Oscar the following year for Dangerous, as a "consolation" prize for being robbed the year before!), Frances Dee, Kay Johnson, Reginald Denny, Alan Hale Sr., and Reginald Owen. Note that the items in this lot are from the Condition: very good. Five of the stills measure 7" x 9" and three measure 8" x 10".
