Date Sold 2/10/2019 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 4 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Lobby Card (Learn More) Tom Sawyer, the 1917 William Desmond Taylor silent adventure comedy ("By arrangement with Mark Twain"; "Scenario by Julia Crawford Ivers") starring Jack Pickford (in the title role as Tom Sawyer), George Hackathorne, Alice Marvin, Edythe Chapman, Robert Gordon (as Huckleberry Finn), and Alice Horton (as Becky Thatcher). Note that this is the second film adaptation for this Mark Twain classic (although there is not much, if any, information about the alleged first adaptation from 1907) and movie paper from this title is extremely scarce. If anyone has more information about the alleged 1907 version (if it exists), please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that these are four VERY rare 8x10 lobby cards for this movie (we have only auctioned one glass slide EVER for this title in all of our years of auctioning, and movie paper from this very early adaptation is extremely hard to find! Note also that, in the early days of movie making, when lobby cards were first made (around 1915), studios would issue sets of the cards in two sizes; the regular 11" x 14" size, and a smaller 8" x 10" size. The cards were identical in every way except for the different size. This practice continued through the early 1920s, at which point the studios abandoned the smaller lobby cards, likely because theaters either ordered 11" x 14" lobby cards or 8" x 10" stills, and did not order enough of the 8" x 10" lobby cards to justify them continuing to make them. Condition: good to very good. Each of the cards has a few tiny pinholes around the edges. The card pictured at lower left has some slight discoloration and rippling along the right edge due to exposure to moisture and the one at lower right has lightened somewhat, but overall, especially given that they are over 100 years old, these rare cards are in pretty nice condition and this is a rare opportunity to obtain movie paper from this very early film adaptation!
