An Original Vintage Theatrical 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Samuel Goldwyn's The Best Years of Our Lives, the classic 1946 William Wyler (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) return-from-World War II (WWII) romantic love triangle military veteran melodrama ("From the Novel by MacKinlay Kantor"; "The screen's greatest love story"; "Acclaimed by critics as 'The greatest picture to come from Hollywood in a long time'"; "Love that lives forever! Love that ends in hate!"; "Love that meets the test!"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; about three servicemen returning from World War II and the difficulties they face in returning to civilian life after years at war; one of the three is a man who lost his hands during the war, and he was played by a real life veteran) starring Myrna Loy, Fredric March (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Dana Andrews, Teresa Wright, Virginia Mayo, Hoagy Carmichael (the famous singer and composer in a fine acting role), Cathy O'Donnell, Harold Russell (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; the real-life veteran who lost his hands in WWII; he also won an Oscar for being an inspiration to all veterans, which makes him the only actor to win two Oscars for the same role!; O'Donnell & Russell are billed as "And introducing"), Steve Cochran, Gladys George, and Roman Bohnen. Note that this movie premiered in the U.S. in November of 1946 (no doubt to qualify for the Academy Awards), but all of the U.S. paper has a 1947 NSS number. Also note that Gladys George and Roman Bohnen played Dana Andrews' lower class parents, and gave fine performances. It is remarkable that Bohnen (a fine actor who looked much older than his actual age) was only six years older than Andrews, playing his father!

Important Added Info: Note that I have seen this movie several times, and I don't remember this scene in the movie! I know that Samuel Goldwyn deceptively advertised sexy Virginia Mayo as one of the main stars of the movie, perhaps because he was worried about the somber aspects of the script, including a handless veteran (who was almost completely unseen in all the advertising)! Also note that this still measures 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm].

Note that not only does our current auction of 999 stills represent the absolute finest selection we have ever had in terms of quality of image and film, but it also represents the finest CONDITION group of stills we have ever had! Half of the stills are graded as being in "very good to fine" condition (which is our highest grade for vintage stills), but we were very strict on this, because otherwise, perhaps two thirds or three quarters of the stills would have received this grade! We downgraded stills to "very good" for pretty minor defects, and many of these might have received our "very good to fine" grade in the past. And the half of the stills that ARE in very good to fine condition would likely be graded "mint" by any other auction! This is the finest group of stills I have ever seen, and I can only hope to equal it someday!

Condition: good to very good. There is a small tear in the lower right border. There are creases and scuffs scattered throughout the surface of the still, but they are mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light.
