An Original 1968 (from the first release of this movie in Italy) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian Two-Panel (known in Italy as a "4 Fogli") Movie Poster (2p; measures 55" x 78" [140 x 198 cm]) (Learn More) Le Samourai (released in English-speaking countries as the original title and as "The Samurai"), the classic 1967 Jean-Pierre Melville French/Italian killer-for-hire crime film noir starring Alain Delon ("is The Godson"), Francois Perier, Nathalie Delon, Michel Boisrond, and Roger Fradet. Note that the initial release of this movie is somewhat murky. The IMDb says it played in the U.S. in January 1967, and then it was released in France in October 1967, and then had its premiere in Italy in February 1968. We would think that that first U.S. release was surely through a festival or an arthouse, because the movie did not have a major U.S. release that we are aware of until 1972, when it was re-titled "The Godson". If anyone knows more about any of this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Sandro Symeoni Important Added Info: Note that this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this partially Italian movie, does not have "Dicembre 1967" at the bottom, as a previous example of this poster (which was in much lesser condition) we have auctioned had. As we wrote above, we suspect this means that the poster was originally scheduled for a 1967 Italian release, but that when it was delayed until 1968, new posters were printed. Virtually the same situation exists with the first release Italian posters for La Dolce Vita, where some are dated 1959 and some are dated 1960. Collectors seem to not place a premium on which date the poster has, since they are otherwise identical and are surely printed from the same plates. Note that this poster ships in a very long tube (at least 33" long, but possibly 50" long or more). Therefore the shipping for this poster will be more than that for a poster that ships in a tube 32" or shorter, and possibly much more. Please bear this added shipping expense in mind before bidding on this poster. You can tell how long of a tube this poster needs to ship in by looking at the shorter dimension of its length and width and then adding 4" to that (so a 47" x 63" poster will need to ship in a 51" long tube). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at some of the crossfolds in the lower right, with some small tears and tiny paper loss in that same area and pretty minor fold wear in the rest of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
