eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 4a651 MONTE CRISTO LC 1922 John Gilbert as aged Edmond Dantes w/ Virginia Brown Faire, ultra rare! Date Sold 2/17/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Monte Cristo, the 1922 Emmett J. Flynn silent lost fortune romantic revenge melodrama ("The three strongest passions known in a lifetime - Love! Hate! Revenge!"; "Alexandre Dumas famous romance"; based on the novel "by Alexandre Dumas") starring John Gilbert (in the title role as Edmond Dantes, the Count of Monte Cristo), Estelle Taylor (as Mercedes), Robert McKim (as De Villefort), William V. Mong (as Caderousse), Virginia Brown Faire (as Haidee), Spottiswoode Aitken (as Abbe Faria), Albert Prisco (as Danglars), and Renee Adoree. Note that a restored version of this movie was released on DVD in 2008, and apparently director Flynn was extremely faithful to the novel, and did a fine job adapting it! Note that John Gilbert was billed as "Jack Gilbert" in this movie (which is how he was billed in movies at this time). He had uncredited roles in 1915 and then had credited roles in 1916, but he still spent the next several years not achieving major stardom. One of his first major roles was in 1922 when he starred in this early version of "The Count of Monte Cristo". Of course, he would become a top star of the mid 1920s, and then he would co-star with a very young Greta Garbo, and the rest, as they say, is history! Finally, note that the best remembered adaptation of this novel was filmed as "The Count of Monte Cristo" in 1934 starring Robert Donat, and there have been many, many subsequent versions in the decades since! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1922 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single first release movie poster or lobby card (only a single still) from this movie until we received this lobby card (although we have auctioned a 1927 re-release window card and jumbo lobby card)! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. There is a tack hole with tiny stains in each corner and a faint smudge in near the center of the bottom border. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
