An Original 1932 (from the first release of this movie in Sweden) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Swedish Movie Poster (measures 27 1/2" x 39 1/4" [70 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) The Sin of Madelon Claudet, the 1931 Edgar Selwyn family relationship mother/son romantic crime melodrama (about an innocent country girl who has an affair with an "artist", which results in an illegitimate child, and then she does all kinds of awful things to provide for him, including walking the streets to put him through college) starring Helen Hayes (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Madelon Claudet), Lewis Stone, Neil Hamilton, Cliff Edwards, Jean Hersholt, Marie Prevost, and Alan Hale Sr. The screenplay of this movie was written by Charles MacArthur (star Helen Hayes' husband) and Ben Hecht. Note that the movie was previewed and audiences hated it. Studio head Irving Thalberg was told it was not salvageable, but he ordered that the ending be re-shot, as well as some of the earlier scenes. Helen Hayes was already making "Arrowsmith", but she did the re-shoots on her off days, and after the new ending was added, Hayes won an Academy Award! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster had tiny tears in the top left corner in the blank border, and the most minor of other border wear, but was otherwise in wonderful condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
