#5058 BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA TC

Date Sold 10/30/2003

Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More)

Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (released in other English-speaking countries as "Monster Meets The Gorilla"), the 1952 William Beaudine New York City science fiction (sci-fi) horror comedy ("Brooklyn chumps become island monkeys in a jungle full of laffs!"; "A horror film that will stiffen you with laughter!"; "A jungle full of Bali-laffs!!") starring Bela Lugosi, Duke Mitchell, Sammy Petrillo (Mitchell and Petrillo are billed as "Introducing Duke Mitchell, Sammy Petrillo"), Charlita, Muriel Landers, Ramona The Chimp, Ray Corrigan, and Steve Calvert (both Corrigan and Calvert were uncredited, but they shared the title role as the gorilla, wearing Corrigan's gorilla costume!). Note that Mitchell and Petrillo were intended to be an imitation of Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin (and Petrillo was even a Jerry Lewis lookalike), but their career really went nowhere! Also note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit, and in this one movie, he also loaned his suit to Calvert, who used it in 11 other movies, playing uncredited gorillas!

Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card is part of an amazing collection of 132 horror/sci-fi lobby cards (our items #5040 through #5171). Included are 121 title cards from 1950 to 1964, including just about every horror/sci-fi movie made during that period, including all of the most famous titles! Also included is all seven scene cards from "The Day the Earth Stood Still", and a great scene card from "House of Wax". The collector who assembled this collection did so over a span of several decades, and to duplicate it would surely take at least that long, if one started today. But on October 30th, every one of these lobby cards will go to a new owner, as all are being sold with NO reserve. Also note that we have listed these lobby cards in strict alphabetical order. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire rare lobby cards that almost never are offered for sale!

Condition: good to very good. Canadian censor stamp in the lower right credits area; three pairs of staple holes and a tiny tear in the center of the card in the title area as well as a few pairs of staple holes and small tears around the edges of the card; minor creases and smudges around the edges of the card
