A Vintage Hardcover Book (measures 5 1/4" x 7 3/4" [13 x 20 cm]; 315 pages) (Learn More)

The Lone Wolf, the 1924 Stanner E.V. Taylor silent romantic crime mystery thriller (about a famed international thief known as The Lone Wolf, who is hired by the U.S. Government to recover stolen plans, and he infiltrates the gang and meets a beautiful member of the gang, and together, they recover the plans, and it turns out she was actually a Secret Service agent working undercover) starring Dorothy Dalton, Jack Holt (in the title role as The Lone Wolf), Wilton Lackaye, Tyrone Power Sr., Charlotte Walker, and Lucy Fox. Note that The Lone Wolf was a character in a series of eight novels that author Louis Joseph Vance wrote starting in 1914, and the first movie starring the character was in 1917, with Bert Lytell in the lead role. There were three movies after that with three different actors in the lead role. Then Lytell returned to the character, and there were many movies in a short period, and then Lytell starred in some sound movies as the character. In the 1940s, Warren William starred in a series of Lone Wolf movies, and then the character was played by Gerald Mohr. There were a few single entries mixed in where other actors played the lead role. In all, there were 24 Lone Wolf movies! The character was a master thief turned detective, and there were several other characters who were very similar, but few had the enduring popularity of The Lone Wolf! Also, note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Important Added Info: Note that this is the A.L. Burt Company photoplay edition in its original dust jacket (one of a collection of such books we are auctioning in this set of auctions). Here are some more details about these books: A.L. Burt (like Grosset & Dunlap) was a publisher that made a deal with some studios to publish "movie edition" hardcovers of novels that were currently adapted into movies. They would republish the original novel as the movie came out (or soon after), and they would put a dust jacket on the book that showed the stars of the movie, and they would include several pages of images from the movie scattered in the book. These books were incredibly popular in the 1920s and 1930s. Note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. Because we know that the dust jacket is an important part of the value of this book, we also pictured the entire dust jacket opened up. Between that image and our other images, you should be able to get a good sense of the overall condition of this book.

Condition: fair to good. The dust jacket is in a protective sleeve.
