An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Madame Mystery, the 1926 F. Richard Jones & Richard Wallace silent romantic slapstick comedy short (produced and written by Hal Roach) starring Theda Bara (in the title role as Madame Mysterieux), Oliver Hardy, James Finlayson, Tyler Brooke, and Fred Malatesta. Note that this was the last movie Theda Bara ever made! She had been the number one female star of the 1910s, the original "vamp", but by 1926, her career was essentially over and Hal Roach gave her parts in two short comedies (essentially parodying herself), but that did nothing to revive her career.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that at this time Hal Roach was producing a huge volume of comedy shorts, and he would normally create a one-sheet and three-sheet for each individual short, but would also create a stock poster showing a stone litho image of members of a movie audience laughing, above the tagline that read "Hal Roach presents", with a large blank space below that, and "Pathecomedy" printed below that. Then these stock posters would be overprinted with the names of specific Hal Roach shorts, and frugal theater owners could order these stock posters at a discount to the price of the individual poster for that short. This particular stock one-sheet was overprinted with the title and credit for "Madame Mystery". In the case of this specific movie, the individual three-sheet has been seen, but I do not know of any individual one-sheets that have surface for this movie (other than this "stock" one-sheet).

Condition: good. The poster is somewhat brittle and there is much tattering and some separation and small paper loss along the foldlines throughout. Fortunately, the foldline defects are mostly in the background or solid color areas at bottom and the poster is otherwise in generally nice condition and after linenbacking it will look fantastic!
