An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47 1/4" x 63 1/4" [120 x 161 cm]) (Learn More)

La Belle Meuniere (released in English-speaking countries as "The Pretty Miller Girl"), the 1948 Marcel Pagnol French romantic musical comedy (about composer Franz Schubert, and his imagined inspiration for his operas by observing the pretty daughter of the local miller where he lives) starring Jacqueline Pagnol (director Marcel Pagnol's wife!), Tino Rossi (as Franz Schubert), Raoul Marco, Lilia Vetti, and Raphael Patomi. Note that this was the first feature film to use Rouxcolor (a color film process created by Lucien and Armand Roux in 1947), and it was the only movie made by Pagnol in color.

Artist: Jean-Dominique van Caulaert
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare French poster from right after World War II! Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Also note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie!

Note that this poster ships in a very long tube (at least 33" long, but possibly 50" long or more). Therefore the shipping for this poster will be more than that for a poster that ships in a tube 32" or shorter, and possibly much more. Please bear this added shipping expense in mind before bidding on this poster. You can tell how long of a tube this poster needs to ship in by looking at the shorter dimension of its length and width and then adding 4" to that (so a 47" x 63" poster will need to ship in a 51" long tube).

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, darkening, and fine surface paper loss on parts of some folds, with some darkening in the borders and light background areas. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
