An Original Vintage Pen Drawing (measures 8" x 9 3/4" [20 x 25 cm]) (Learn More) Betty Boop is an animated sex symbol cartoon character created in 1930 by Max Fleischer. She appeared in a huge number of cartoons from 1929 to 1939 and still remains a popular character to this day. Note that Max Fleischer (along with his brother Dave) were legends and pioneers in animated films. They made the very first sound cartoon in 1924, beating Walt Disney by several years. They had great success with their Out of the Inkwell cartoons, Popeye, Betty Boop, and much more, including the Superman cartoons, widely regarded as the finest cartoons ever made! But after Walt Disney made Snow White, the Fleischers made Gulliver's Travels, which did not do well at the box office, and their next major project, Mr. Bug Goes To Town, had the bad fortune to be released two days before the attack on Pearl Harbor, and it also did poorly. At this same time, the Fleischer brothers had a major falling out, and in 1942, they split completely. After they made the last of their Superman cartoons in 1942, Paramount seized control of their studio. Each of the brothers made a few more cartoons, but their careers were essentially over. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: What a wild item this is! It appears to be the original art that was done for a cartoon that appeared in a 1954 issue of the French magazine Cahiers du Cinema. The person who had this art had the clipping from the magazine showing the image. Since we don't read French, we don't know what it says, but this sure is cool! If anyone knows more about this, especially who did this art, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this item contains some nudity, so we have placed a white bar over those areas for those who are bothered by such images. Of course, the actual item does not have the white bars. Condition: good to very good. There are stains and smudges around the edges, but it has little effect on the art (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
