An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

George Reeves was an actor from the 1930s to 1959. Some of his movies include: Gone with the Wind, From Here to Eternity, and So Proudly We Hail! Of course, he will always be best remembered for his role as Superman in the TV series "The Adventures of Superman". Very sadly, Mr. Reeves was found dead in June of 1959. He was 45. It was ruled a suicide, supposedly because Mr. Reeves was despondent over not being able to get roles since he was so typecast as Superman, but many, many people have strongly questioned that, and believe he was actually murdered, and that the murder was covered up.
Important Added Info: Note that George Reeves died on June 16, 1959. Someone hand wrote on the back of this still (perhaps photographer Bill Seay, who has a stamped photo credit on the back) that this image was taken "1 week before suicide", which would mean it was shot around June 9, 1959 (and the obvious genuine happiness he is expressing in the photo seems to make it very odd that just one week later he would be so sad that he would take his own life!). Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock.

UPDATED 02/01/2016: Note that a collector also pointed out that George is leaning on a brand new (and possibly customized) Oldsmobile with temporary plates, and had a session with a noted photographer with the intention of circulating the images as publicity. This seems to only deepen the mystery surrounding his death.

Condition: very good to fine.
