Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Australian One-sheet Movie Poster (measures approximately 27" x 40") (Learn More) Curly Top, the 1935 Irving Cummings orphan juvenile musical melodrama starring Shirley Temple ("She Sings, She Dances, She Charms"), John Boles, Rochelle Hudson, Jane Darwell, and Rafaela Ottiano. Note that this movie was based on a play and novel by Jean Webster from 1912. It was made into a silent movie in 1919 starring Mary Pickford, and was remade as a sound film in 1931 with Janet Gaynor, and then was significantly altered so that Shirley Temple could play the lead in this movie, and then was remade with Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron in 1955. Obviously, it is extremely unlikely that this plot will ever be used again, because in today's world, a story about a middle aged man falling in love with an 18 year old that he "adopts" is very inappropriate! Also note that this was the last movie Shirley Temple made for Fox Films. Her next movie was made after it merged with 20th Century Pictures, and became 20th Century-Fox. During that time, Fox's number one star, Will Rogers died in a plane crash, and surprisingly, Shirley Temple became the studio's new number one star! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. "Curly Top" in the title area has been covered with tape and yellow paint and over this is attached (with rusty staples) blue pieces of paper advertising a showing of "Little Miss Broadway". While no doubt a talented restorer could remove the paint and restore this poster to its wonderful original state, we have no idea how difficult or expensive that would be! Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept it as it is or are willing to pay to have it restored. fine white lines in the upper and lower right that appear to have been caused by creases in the paper when the poster was printed; rust stains around the edges of the yellow background (from the staples in the title area; The above makes the poster sound worse than it actually is! The defects are significant but the poster is still clean and the colors are vibrant. I imagine if one decided to linenback this poster, a talented restorer could remove the tape and paint over the title and the poster would look wonderful! Learn More about condition grades
