An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures approximately 3" x 4") (Learn More) Viennese Nights, the 1930 Alan Crosland Austria romantic love triangle musical operetta (written by Oscar Hammerstein II and Sigmund Romberg; about childhood friends in Vienna who join the army, and one becomes an officer, and he steals the woman that one of his friends loves, and they have an unhappy marriage, and his friend goes to America, where he later meets the unhappy wife, but now he is married with a child, so they put aside their love, and then 40 years later, their grandchildren get together, and they dream of what their life might have been) starring Alexander Gray, Vivienne Segal, Jean Hersholt, Walter Pidgeon, Louise Fazenda, and Bert Roach. Note that Walter Pidgeon was born in 1897, and started making silent movies in the mid 1920s, but he had limited success. He had a wonderful speaking voice, but that did not lead to stardom in early sound movies. Finally, in 1937, at the age of 40, MGM put him under contract, but still limited him to supporting roles. His "big break" finally came in 1941 with "How Green Was My Valley", and he became one of MGM's top stars of the early 1940s (no doubt helped by so many other male stars being away at war). He stayed with MGM for the remainder of his career. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that there is a diagonal crack in the bottom right of the slide cutting across the lower right of the image. Glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: good. This glass slide has clear condition problems that causes it to be in less than "very good" condition. We do NOT describe those defects in words (UNLESS the defect is a crack in one or both panes of the glass, in which case we ALWAYS describe it elsewhere within the auction in words), and you can likely see some or all of them in the "large" and "super-sized" images we provide. If you are the sort who can accept a major defect, then you should bid on items in this condition grade, BUT PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THESE ITEMS UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THEIR VERY CLEAR DEFECTS!
