Zanuck's Hollywood Cavalcade, the 1939 Irving Cummings & Malcolm St. Clair Los Angeles California movie acting romantic melodrama ("The romance of Hollywood from bathing beauties to world premieres!"; "Story by Hilary Lynn and Brown Holmes"; "Based upon an original idea by Lou Breslow"; "Screen Play by Ernest Pascal"; "Photographed in Technicolor"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; a highly fictionalized history of early Hollywood and silent movies, with Ameche playing a composite of Mack Sennett and D.W. Griffith, with Alice Faye playing a composite of Mabel Normand and Gloria Swanson, and the movie culminates with the first talking pictures, and it basically bears no real relationship to what actually occurred, but it is highly entertaining, and has great cameos from many of the best silent stars, including the billed ones, and also Al Jolson, Mack Sennett, and Rin Tin Tin Jr.!) starring Alice Faye, Don Ameche, J. Edward Bromberg, Alan Curtis, Stuart Erwin, Buster Keaton, Donald Meek, Jed Prouty, George Givot, Eddie Collins, and Ben Turpin NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that on this movie, 20th Century Fox solely issued a "photolobby" set with glossier color scenes from the movie. We have no idea why 20th Century-Fox did this, but it seems to be something they experimented with in the 1930s and early 1940s on certain movies (sometimes they would issue a regular lobby card set plus a color-glos set as well). We are doing something in this set of auctions we rarely do! A couple of years ago, we were approached by a very long time collector, and he asked us if he could give us an entire auction of single lobby cards by himself. We agreed, and held that auction in 2017, and later that same year, a different collector sent us a different group of 999 lobby cards and we repeated the process. Now we have a third such "single owner" collection. This one was originally assembled in Australia, which is why some of the cards have either Australian paper snipes attached or Australian ratings stamps (but many do not have them). This collection originally contained 1,100 cards, and we auctioned 100 of them in our March Major Auction, and now we are auctioning the remaining 999 in THIS set of auctions, and after this auction, there will be no more cards to be offered. As will immediately be evident when you look at the cards, many of them are from titles where you almost never see any lobby cards, so this is a rare opportunity to acquire many cards that almost never are offered for sale or at auction! Condition: fair to good. There are some scuffs marks scattered in the image that someone touched up with blue marker.
