An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Six-Sheet Movie Poster (6sh; measures 81" x 81" [206 x 206 cm]) (Learn More)

The Monster and the Ape, the 1945 Howard Bretherton science fiction (sci-fi) horror serial ("Amazing! Fantastic! Weird! Thrilling!"; "A Columbia Chapter Play") starring Robert Lowery, George Macready, Ralph Morgan, Carole Mathews, Willie Best, and Ray Corrigan (uncredited as "Thor" the ape!). Note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit!

Artist: Glenn Cravath
Important Added Info: Note that this is an incredibly rare poster. We have never auctioned it before! Not only is this a very rare six-sheet, but ALL posters from the first release of this movie are extremely rare. This is partly surely due to it being a serial, because how many theaters would have ordered posters for a serial (especially large ones!), when they likely only showed a chapter at a time? But in addition, this movie was quickly re-released in 1956, and it is very likely that whatever first release 1945 movie paper survived at that time was then used up or thrown away.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of some foldlines, with some pinholes and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
