An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 23" x 31 1/4" [58 x 79 cm]) (Learn More) The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle, the 1939 H.C. Potter biographical vaudeville dancing romantic musical comedy ("Dramatic! Thrilling! Beautiful!"; "The Texas Tommy"; "The Maxixe"; "The Castle Walk"; "The Tango"; "At last Fred and Ginger in a great Dramatic Love Story!"; "Adaptation by Oscar Hammerstein II & Dorothy Yost") starring Fred Astaire (in the title role as Vernon Castle), Ginger Rogers (in the title role as Irene Castle), Edna May Oliver, Walter Brennan, Lew Fields, Etienne Girardot, and Janet Beecher. Note that this was the last of the nine wonderful movies that Astaire and Rogers made between 1933 and 1939 (they made one final movie, "The Barkleys of Broadway", ten years later in 1949). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Jacques Bonneaud Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The entire poster had darkened somewhat. It had thumb tack holes, pinholes, and some stains around the edges, with paper loss in the center of the bottom border and in the top right corner (both blank paper only) caused by rough removal of the pins. It had tiny paper loss at the crossfold and scuffing and slight separation on the foldlines. There were a few dot stains scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above (a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
