An Original Vintage Unfolded Political Campaign Poster (measures 16" x 20 1/4" [41 x 51 cm]) (Learn More)

Ottinger for Senator, the 1970 political campaign poster encouraging citizens to vote for Richard Ottinger in the 1970 senatorial election, and featuring a wonderful close up image of Ottinger. He came from a wealthy family, and in 1964, he was elected as a Democratic Congressman from New York, and he was re-elected twice. In 1970, he ran for Senator of New York. He split the Liberal vote with Charles Goodell, and both were defeated by Conservative James Buckley. In 1972, he ran for Congress again and lost, but in 1974, he was re-elected from a different district. He was re-elected four more time, retiring in 1985. It is interesting to note that he was at the center of one of the first major campaign financing scandals in 1964. At that time, there was a limit of spending $8,000 of your own money in your campaign, but Ottinger managed to spend $193,000, by setting up many "committees" (many by his mother and sister), but Ottinger weathered the scandal and continued on in his career, and of course, campaign financing continues to have scandal after scandal!

Important Added Info: Note that while this poster could conceivably be rolled, we will only ship it in a large flat package, because we feel certain that rolling it would damage it.

Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Some of these items can ONLY be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. On some of them (for example f it is a size that might ordinarily be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet), the reason it is in this auction is specifically because we feel it either CAN'T be rolled or because we feel it would be a mistake to roll it, because it might well damage the item. In the case of the few items that could be rolled, we will roll the item in a tube if the new owner insists, but only if they accept that they can't return the item if it is damaged from being rolled. So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it.

Condition: good to very good. There is paper loss in the top right corner and tiny paper loss in the lower right border. There are creases, scuffs, and a few faint stains scattered through the poster, but it can still be displayed and enjoyed as it is.
