Earl Moran was a pin-up and glamour artist from the 1930s to the 1980s. Moran signed an exclusive contract with Brown and Bigelow in 1932, and by 1937 his pinups had sold millions of calendars for the company. In 1940, Life ran a feature article entitled "Speaking of Pictures" which mostly focused on Moran's work and made him a celebrity. In 1946, Moran moved to Hollywood and soon after his arrival, he interviewed a young starlet named Norma Jeane Dougherty who wanted to model for him. For the next four years, Marilyn Monroe posed for Moran and the two became friends. Some of the celebrities he painted include: Betty Grable, Joan Crawford, and of course Marilyn Monroe. He passed away in 1984 at the age of 90.
Artist: Earl Moran
Important Added Info: Note that this poster, which is one of Earl Moran's art prints of nude girls, appears to have been personally autographed (signed) by Earl Moran. His name is printed on the poster in the lower left, in block letters as it always was, but there is also a signature above that. Our consignor obtained this poster with the signature on it many years ago, and he tells us he has no way of verifying the signature (although we compared it to signatures of Mr. Moran on the Internet, and it appears to be as he signed his name). Of course, that is no proof, but our consignor tells us that the poster originally had an inscription above the signature to the recipient, and when he had the poster backed, he asked the restorer to cover over the inscription, but that is another reason to believe the signature may well be authentic. But please do not bid on this poster assuming it surely has an authentic signature, because we can't guarantee that. Also note that this item contains some nudity, so we have placed a white bar over those areas for those who are bothered by such images. Of course, the actual item does not have the white bars.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had aged significantly and had many tiny holes and stains scattered throughout. The poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. In the original art of this image, the girl is leaning on a deco-like table outline in a striking blue color. Much of that area was damaged, and the restorer simply painted over much of it, although some traces of the blue remain. The restorer also covered over the inscription portion of the autograph, as noted above. Much of the background area has been painted over, and expert restoration has been performed to the girl's figure. The poster will display well on the new owner's wall, but bear in mind its very significant restoration before bidding.
