An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook Exploitation Section (pb; measures 18" x 24 1/4" [46 x 62 cm]; 24 pages) (Learn More)

Ziegfeld Girl, the 1941 Robert Z. Leonard & Busby Berkeley breaking-into-show-business New York City Broadway theater stage romantic gambling musical ("Greatest musical extravaganza of all time!") starring James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart), Judy Garland, Hedy Lamarr, Lana Turner, Edward Everett Horton, Tony Martin, Jackie Cooper, Ian Hunter, Charles Winninger, Philip Dorn, Al Shean, Eve Arden, and Leslie Brooks (uncredited in her first movie as one of the Ziegfeld Girls!). Note that MGM was famous for having "more stars than there were in Heaven", and because they were under contract by the week rather than by the movie, they could put them into multiple movies each year. How rare is it for a single Hollywood movie to have three female stars who became superstars (in this case, Judy Garland, Hedy Lamarr, and Lana Turner), and of course, Jimmy Stewart also became a superstar!

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this pressbook exploitation section, and after seeing how elaborate and large it is, we know why, because it is likely few ever survived. For some of the best movies MGM made at this time, they made a special separate "exploitation section", which showed many items that theaters could order aside from the regular posters. Basically, this is like a catalog of what could be ordered, including the 40x60, 30x40s, banners, giant photo blow-ups, and much, much more! Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: very good, NO CUTS. This very large pressbook section (which measures 18" x 24 1/4") is complete and uncut, and it is folded across the middle. It is very elaborate and has a ton of great images, BUT THIS IS NOT THE COMPLETE PRESSBOOK, JUST THE EXPLOITATION SECTION, WHICH HAS 24 PAGES.
