Date Sold 5/28/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Shadows Over Chinatown, the 1946 Terry O. Morse insurance fraud Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Suggested by Earl Der Biggers character") starring Sidney Toler (as Charlie Chan), Mantan Moreland, Victor Sen Yung (as Jimmy Chan, "#2 Son"), Tanis Chandler (a French actress who appeared in some Hollywood movies of the 1940s, but she returned to France and became the French dubbed voice for Hollywood actresses when those movies were shown in France!), Paul Bryar, Bruce Kellogg, Al Bridge, and John Gallaudet. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. The poster has several light scuff marks scattered throughout (a few affect the image of Toler's face at left - see our image). It has some paper loss in the upper two crossfolds and separation in some fold edges and there is some paper loss at left in the blank border. Certainly the poster could be restored and linenbacked and it would look great, but please bear in mind its defects and cost of restoration before placing a bid. Learn More about condition grades
