Note that Carl Hagenbeck Jr. co-founded the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus and was a merchant of wild animals who supplied many European zoos, as well as P. T. Barnum. He later created the modern zoo with animal enclosures without bars that were closer to their natural habitat, and founded the Tierpark Hagenbeck zoo in Hamburg. Carl Hagenbeck Jr. had a younger brother named Wilhelm (known as Willy) who also created a circus and animal show If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss at the middle crossfold and tears and small paper loss scattered on parts of some folds. It had an extra horizontal fold 6" from the top of the poster, but with only very tiny paper loss. It had two vertical tears above the "CU" of "CIRCUS". It had tears and paper loss around the edges extending into the image in several areas, with paper loss in the top left corner, extending into the orange and black background. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and displays well. However, you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects, but they are not very distracting. Still, it will look great on the new owner's wall!
