Throughout his long career, he alternated between TV, the Broadway stage, and Hollywood. Some of his movies include: The Shawshank Redemption, Battleground (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Tora! Tora! Tora!, and Give 'em Hell, Harry! (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; the film version of his one-man stage show, where he portrayed President Harry Truman). He was also memorable on a 1963 episode of "The Twilight Zone", playing "Captain Benteen", the captain of a group of shipwrecked survivors of a space ship crash on a distant planet! Whitmore passed away in 2009 at the age of 87. Important Added Info: Note that this postcard has been personally autographed (signed) by James Whitmore! The owner of it taped a newspaper clipping of Whitmore to the postcard above his signature. Note that this is one of a wonderful collection of 91 items that were assembled by a collector decades ago, mostly from RR Auctions, which has auctioned signed items since 1976. The person who purchased these items passed away several years ago, and while he did not save most of the certificates of authenticity he received when he bought these signed items, almost all were purchased between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, and we think it is extremely likely that the autograph on this item is genuine. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction.
