An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan in Rio, the 1941 Harry Lachman South America Rio De Janeiro Brazil Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("It's Chan's most spine-tingling mystery!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Sidney Toler (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Mary Beth Hughes, Cobina Wright Jr., Ted North, Victor Jory, Harold Huber, Victor Sen Yung (as Jimmy Chan), Richard Derr, Jacqueline Dalya, Kay Linaker, and Iris Wong. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Prior to paperbacking, the poster had diagonal creases above and below the top foldline, with many scuffs along those folds and minor wear on the other two folds. There were smudges in the top white background areas and some in the solid background areas in the top circle area. There were smudges in the forehead of the man at top right. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did little restoration to the defects described above (and backing the poster has reduced how noticeable the creases and scuffs are).
