A 1947 Re-Release English Movie Trade Ad (measures 11" x 17" [28 x 43 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More) Sanders of the River (released in some countries as "Bosambo", which was Robeson's character name; see below), the 1935 Zoltan Korda English Nigeria Africa jungle safari adventure thriller ("From the great story by Edgar Wallace") starring Paul Robeson (as Bosambo), Leslie Banks (in the title role as Commissioner R.G. Sanders), Nina Mae McKinney, Robert Cochran, Robert Walker, "and a cast of thousands". Note that when this movie was released in the U.S. and England, it was called "Sanders of the River", and all the advertising greatly downplayed Paul Robeson, who played Bosambo, and was actually the star of the movie. When it was released in other countries, it was called "Bosambo", and all the advertising centered around Robeson in jungle native garb! Note that the Robert Walker credited above was NOT the Robert Walker who starred in the 1940s and 1950s, but a different Robert Walker who started making movies in 1913, and he appeared in an amazing 255 movies through 1953, a 40 year span, but most of those were westerns, and a lot of them were very minor roles, often uncredited. Important Added Info: Note that this is a great two-page trade ad taken out of a Kinematograph Weekly English trade magazine (we have a number of them in this set of auctions, and also one-page English trade ads). Studios would run these elaborate 2-page ads in issues of this magazine, and they often had images not found on any of the regular movie posters (either English or U.S.). This 2-page trade ad was removed from a 1947 issue of this magazine, and it will look incredible displayed on the new owner's wall. The back of those two pages have text or ads for other movies from that time, and we have not pictured those back pages because the primary interest to bidders is the great two-page color ad, which measures approximately 11" x 17". Also note that this is a "country of origin" item for this English movie. Condition: very good. The ad was removed from a magazine (see above). It was the centerfold of the magazine so the two pages are on a single sheet, and there are staple holes at the spine (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
