Cannes Film Festival (Festival International du Film Cannes) is a long running film festival from 1946 to the present. The festival is held annually in Cannes, France, which previews new films from all genres from around the world. While the first official festival was held in 1946, Cannes was hosting film festivals as far back as 1939
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that our consignor spent years trying to assemble as many of the French posters for the Cannes Film Festival as he could find, and he was able to acquire 16 of them from between 1974 and 2000, with most of the ones from the first 15 years, which seems pretty amazing to us! He has asked us to auction all of them as a single group, so that they will stay together and someone else can reap the benefit of his hard work (and perhaps find more of the missing ones). Of course, the winning bidder might decide instead to sell them individually, but that will be that person's choice.

Note: We have 16 images of the French one-panels in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 16 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 6. Finally note that the poster from 2000 is double-sided for use in a lightbox.

Condition: good to very good. Each of the 16 posters has never been folded. The ones from 1976, 1978, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1988 and 2000 have light edge wear, a few light creases and are otherwise in "very good" condition. The 1974 poster has a tear at upper center that has been repaired with tape from the back and some slight discoloration in the lower center with a sticker on back at lower right. The 1975 poster has a tear at lower right that has been repaired with tape from the back with creases throughout (more so around the edges). The 1977 poster has some creases throughout and a few pieces of tape on some edges (not put there for any restoration purpose). The 1979 poster has light rippling and slight discoloration scattered in various areas due to exposure to moisture and some edge defects (it is in "good" condition). The 1980 poster has some light creases scattered throughout and some edge wear. The 1981 poster has several horizontal creases at bottom (see our image). The 1985 poster has some discoloration mainly at left and some defects around the edges. The 1987 poster has tiny dot staining at upper center in the blank border only and otherwise only some light edge wear. The 1992 poster has light rippling throughout due to exposure to moisture. The majority of the posters are in pretty nice condition, and a few have some defects that we have listed above, and otherwise some minor defects can be seen in our super-sized images. Please see those images and bear in mind that the posters range from two in "good" condition, a few in "good to very good" condition, and several in "very good" condition, and in any case the winner of this auction will receive a collection of 16 French Cannes Film Festival posters!
