A Photographic Negative (measures 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm]) (Learn More) Groucho Marx (born Julius Henry Marx) was a legendary comedian/actor from the 1920s to the 1960s. He and his three brothers started on the stage (Groucho, Gummo, Harpo, and Chico). Youngest brother Zeppo joined, so for a brief time there were five Marx Brothers, but Gummo soon left the act to join the army. The remaining four performed on stage and signed with Paramount Pictures and made a number of memorable movies there. Zeppo then left the act, and the remaining three signed with MGM, where they had two of their best remembered movies: A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races. In the 1950s, the brothers separated, and Groucho had a very memorable TV game show called "You Bet Your Life". In his later years, he was a frequent guest on TV talk shows. Groucho passed away in 1977 at the age of 86. To learn much more about him, read the fine biography "Raised Eyebrows" by Steve Stoliar (available as an audio book narrated by Mr. Stoliar, who was Groucho's secretary and lived with him for a number of years). Important Added Info: Note that this image was taken in 1972 for a photo shoot by Esquire magazine to promote the album "An Evening With Groucho". Also, when Steve Stoliar wrote his book about his life working with Groucho, "Raised Eyebrows", he used this image of Groucho on the cover (but artfully edited out Erin Fleming). Finally, note that this (or these, in the case of multiple negatives) was created by and sent by the studio that produced this (in the year noted on this auction) to newspapers, magazines, TV stations, or reviewers, so that they could use them to create the highest quality ads. They can be used to make very high quality reproductions, but bear in mind that we are solely auctioning the physical negatives and NOT the right to reproduce them, so unless they are public domain, the new owner must acquire the rights elsewhere before reproducing them. NOTE THAT THE ITEM(S) YOU ARE PURCHASING IS A "NEGATIVE" THAT HAS A REVERSE IMAGE, AS SEEN IN OUR PHOTO (we also scanned them as well, using a special "negative setting", which reverses the image, so that you can see how the negative appears when you reverse the image, but the buyer of this auction will receive one or more negatives, NOT a positive image, as seen in our special scan). Condition: very good. The negative does not have a plastic sleeve, but it would certainly be easy to acquire one. Learn More about condition grades
